The company information system

Discuss Information System Development Plan. Purpose, Scope and Objective. Give your opinion and reflection.

Information System Development Plan

Information systems are the means by which people and organizations, utilizing technologies, gather, process, store, use and disseminate information. It involves the study of theories and practices related to the social and technological phenomena, which determine the development, use and effects of information systems in organizations and society. The complexity of the information resources in a company suggests that planning is vital to success.

Purpose Information System Development Plan

Ø It is to enable company Y and its people to comprehend very complex systems, and to organize the elements of the problem and the solution around domains of expertise. In the company of a responsible people and name, information system development plan often correspond to capabilities and responsibilities within the organization. It is to show how a work done and how they acknowledge the kind of planning. Most complex system specifications are so extensive that no one individual can fully comprehend all aspects of the specifications. Furthermore, we all have different interests in a given system and different reasons for examining the system's specifications. A business executive will ask different questions of a system make-up than would a system implementer.

Scope Information System Development Plan

1. Theoretical underpinnings of information systems
2. Data, information and knowledge management
3. Information in organizational decision making
4. Integration of information systems with organizational strategy and development
5. Information systems design
6. Development, implementation and maintenance of information systems

Objective Information System Development Plan

The Company Y chooses SAPI to guide them to achieve the goal. SAPI is used as an inspiration for the work to be done not the SAPI itself works. To monitor the procedure management and contract work effort of the organizations performing software development for the improvement of the company and the performance of its people. The processes were used to generate the process documented in this plan and to organize data and information and enable their effective use by individuals, groups and organizations.

Reflection and Opinion

I have to admit there is no simple and easy way to fully understand the Information System Development plan. What I do know is that there is a software development exist that every company is aiming to get, not all can really get the exact point but somehow it has been in their mind and waited for something to extract it. There are conflicting reports and studies on how it is being manipulated, but clearly at some point they will run out or no longer be a priority. As a production director the challenges I see with information system are the technology, implementation, and public opinion. There is a necessity to provide a specific work in every company and organization involve. More research needs to be done, and I think the companies that implementing the development need to support it. SAPI when we say it and then realizing that there is more ways to grab opportunities. Information System Development Planning is an issue of the utmost importance, and it would be better for everyone to take a single glance in recognizing its existence.

Comment on the Relationship of IS and the organization.

An Information system is a combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and trained personnel organized to facilitate planning, control, coordination, and decisions making in an organization.
It’s also a system but differs from other kinds of systems because its objective is to monitor and document the operations of other systems, which we can call target systems. An information system owes its existence to the target system. For example, production activities would be the target system for a production scheduling information system, human resources would be the target system of a human resource information system, and so on. We could say that every reactive system may have a subsystem that can be considered as an information system whose objective is to monitor and control such a system. The main functions of an information system may be input, processing, output, storage and control at work place
Information is the lifeblood of any organization. Damaged or lost data can cause disruptions in normal business activities leading to financial losses, law suits, etc. Information systems, which comprise hardware, software, data, applications, communication and people, help an organization to better manage and secure its critical corporate, customer and employee data. Information systems also improve integration and work processes the benefits go on and on.
Information systems and the organizations in which they are used interact with and influence each other. The introduction of a new information system will affect organizational structure, goals, work design, values, and competition between interest groups, decision making, and day-to-day behavior. At the same time, information systems must be designed to serve the needs of important organizational groups and will be shaped by the organization’s structure, tasks, goals, culture, politics, and management. Information technology can reduce transaction and agency costs, and such changes have been accentuated in organizations using the Internet. Information systems are closely intertwined with an organization’s structure, culture, and business processes. New systems disrupt established patterns of work and power relationships, so there is often considerable resistance to them when they are introduced. The complex relationship between information systems, organizational performance, and decision making must be carefully managed.
The Company Y is large company. It is known worldwide and in terms of information, it is in need of an information manager. And yes the MIS helps a lot. The MIS department is always on the go of whatever problem they encounter with their information’s. Because of the MIS department the workers in the company work a lot easier than before and they are now very time same saver.
But the impact of this is not always positive in the company, some workers do not understand some of the system introduce by the MIS department. So instead of using the system given. They stay with what they’ve used to in the case of Company Y some of their worker didn’t adapt the new technologies of that generation.
People in organizations occupy different positions with different specialties, concerns, and perspectives. As a result, they naturally have divergent viewpoints about how resources, rewards, and punishments should be distributed. These differences matter to both managers and employees, and they result in political struggle for resources, competition, and conflict within every organization. Political resistance is one of the great difficulties of bringing about organizational change, especially the development of new information systems. Virtually all large information systems investments by a firm that bring about significant changes in strategy, business objectives, business processes, and procedures become politically charged events. Managers that know how to work with the politics of an organization will be more successful than less-skilled managers in implementing new information systems. Throughout this book you will find many examples of where internal politics defeated the best-laid plans for an information system.

Describe the impact of IS and give your own reflection.

It is surprising facts that there are many more companies still do not use the Internet. It is even more surprising that some of them are still using manual information system. Information system is a set of interrelated component that collect, process, store, and disseminate information to support companies’ managerial team in decision making, coordinating, controlling, and analyzing. An Information System is a particular type of work system that uses information technology to detain, put on the air, store, retrieve, manipulate or display information, thereby partisan one or more other work structure. So it means that the impact of IS, is that big and very rampant now a days because of its features and works. And also the impact of the IS brings us to the next level of making our works easy and comfortable.
My own reflection to the impact of IS, is that it helps me to lessen my work as a warehouse manager especially in adding and viewing the information of a certain items stored in our warehouse and also if the stock of that certain items are out of stock or over supply . Information system is such where data are collected, classified and put into process interpreting the result thereon in order to provide an integrated series of information for further conveying and analyzing. It means that Information system enables our companies to react, respond, cater, store, retrieve, disseminate, and control their new valuable asset that is information. In the years to come, a good information system within our company will be no longer an option; it will become a compulsory in determining success. As a warehouse manager it broadens my mind that the system makes us understand its uses and importance in our work because with the of the system we can make our decision directly according to what our system shows us that our stocks of our items are degrading or we can directly report to the production teams so that right away they can manufacture the items that are out of stock and also stop manufacturing all items that are over supply.

Elaborate the negative impact of the IS in the organization and give your justified suggestion or recommendation such that they can be reduced or avoided.

With the arrival of the information age, information technology becomes more widespread and integrated into more aspects of our life. In an organization, information technology has made significant changes on production design, management control, decision-making and organizational design. At the same time, there is a need for specialized staff support, training for managers and employees, and a redefinition of jobs. However, not all information system should be accessible to all employees, which deeply affecting employees work and life. It has also made employees work under greater mental pressure and sense of anxiety and pessimism. They have a great difficulty in forming teams and teamwork’s. There was a lot of anticipation and people are trying to be tolerant and their patience has run out. The root of the problem is lack of training; discipline and an appreciation of the employees that if they don’t do it in a timely fashion they’re cocking purchasing up. There are sufficient people around still thinking in the old way to cause those sorts of problems. Managers were very busy people they’ve got a lot on, their supervisors have got a lot on, and it hasn’t been their number one priority. That has been a major difficulty, getting them to get it up to the number one priority. As a manager purchasing I need to consider the effects of various new problems aroused by information technology, including overcoming resistance to the use of computers, employee’s mental pressure and security of information. Employee’s mental health is the key to success of organization. I suggest some countermeasures to be applied to the problem. The contributions and practical implications regarding what actions I can take to reduce the negative effects of information technology should be discussed as a purchasing manager to my own employees.

Give your reflection on the ethical issues relating to the given IS planning and implementation.

The company IS planning and implementation is to a good and better job. It is enable to plan the utilization of the people much better. It will going to give an opportunity to do a lot of team building and to encourage teamwork, to focus people’s attention on common objectives. As they got into SAPI, they realize that this was an opportunity to bring about some more fundamental changes in some areas that they didn’t even contemplate right at the very beginning. The advantage of the system is that, it will going to enable them to ensure that their data is accurate. They can pull information out of that computer a lot easier. The issues about the implementation and planning of the Information System, is that after their visits to the other users of SAPI the majority of the project team selected BPCS as the preferred software. But the choice of the BPCS was not acceptable to the US parent company. It is because the parent company wanted to use MAPICS II since they said that it was the best and adequate for most of the businesses. But the parent company is a pharmaceutical company, while the company y is only on the chemicals, so they can’t use the MAPICS II because it is complicated on their field. But the MIS modifies the source code to make it useful for them. Both parties should have its own system analyst to avoid misunderstanding on what program will be going to implement for the better and effective company information system. The parent company should understand what are the risks we can get if we will use the system that is not compatible on our company.
